Breaking ground on Virgin Hotels New York

Richard Branson joins VOA’s Brian McFarland at site of new flagship hotel in NoMad

On Friday, September 25th, ground broke on the Virgin Hotels New York in the NoMad neighborhood of New York City. Located on the southwest corner of 30th Street and Broadway, the 39-story, 500,000 SF tower is scheduled to open in 2018. VOA Associates, the architect and interior designer on the project, is working closely with owner/developer the Lam Group and Virgin Hotels to create a dynamic new lifestyle hotel concept that will become an exciting destination for travelers and locals alike.

Guests arrived at the red painted stair at 3pm on Friday and progressed to a red carpet where they previewed large renderings of the hotel and enjoyed the quintessential Virgin cocktail, the Bloody Mary. The ceremony began with remarks from Raul Leal, CEO of Virgin Hotels, Richard Branson, Founder of Virgin Group, and Hung Luk, COO of Lam Group. Then out came the gold shovels. Representatives of the Lam team and the NY Mayor’s office joined Sir Richard Branson, Brian McFarland of VOA in donning red Virgin hardhats and digging. Finally, Richard Branson popped a bottle of champagne for a toast to the soon-to-be flagship hotel, Virgin Hotels New York.
