Meeting the “Cardboard Challenge” at Interior Design-hosted forum promoting sustainability in hospitality design

On May 31st, Interior Design magazine hosted the FutureGreen 2014 – Hospitality Forum at the Crosby Street Hotel.

What I believed would be a day of panels and speakers ended up being a hands-on prototyping charrette using only cardboard, facilitated by Jill Hellman, Senior Innovation Advisor from Cornell University, and Nirvan Mullick, director of the short film ‘Caine’s Arcade.’ (Look it up. It’s not too long and worth watching.)

The third annual Interior Design FutureGreen forum (#IDFutureGreen) offered a prize of $2,500 for the winning ”cardboard” prototype that offered the best hospitality solution for the day’s theme: Smaller. Faster. Cheaper.

I was tapped to lead and present for Team 6.  While our team concept—a multi-function, media center monolith hub we dubbed “Hubba Hubba”— did not make it to the final three, we had a fantastic time putting it together. I’d love to come back next year for another chance at the title.

Take a look at Interior Design’s complete event wrap-up and slide shows to see what the other teams came up with at FutureGreen.
