Old Town School of Folk Music
CHICAGO, IL The Old Town School began 55 years ago in an Oak Park living room. It currently resides in buildings on Armitage in Lincoln Park, and on Lincoln in Lincoln Square.
“The Old Town School has lived in a living room, former bank, former tavern, former library, former soccer club,” said Graves. “This is the first time we've had a space designed as a school of music and dance.”
Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who used to be the area's congressman, marvels at how an entire neighborhood grew up around the school.
“This, to me, is a classic example of how a single cultural institution can take a neighborhood and become the economic engine and cultural engine of an entire neighborhood,” said Emanuel

Old Town School: A New Place to Play
CHICAGO, IL A trio of concrete panels highlight the exterior of the new Old Town School East Building, 4545 N. Lincoln Ave. The panels are bold and muscular in a Chicago way, but they celebrate the tender diversities of music. When combined, the panels depict the word “music” in 28 different languages.

Old Town School expands for its 55th
CHICAGO, IL Old Town School of Folk Music celebrates its 55th anniversary with a 55-day schedule of activities. First up in the celebration is the opening of the new East Building, just across Lincoln Avenue from the old. The LEED Gold-level "green" facility has three dance studios, 16 acoustically engineered classrooms, a performance hall that will host a variety of concerts and shows and stained-glass portraits of blues, jazz and country artists by R. Crumb decorating the lobby and staircase.
