Officer Candidate School, Mess Hall Renovations

VOA provided architecture, interior design and sustainable design for the new Officer Candidates School (OCS) Headquarters and Mess Hall Renovation.  The Officer Candidates School Headquarters is a 2-story 13,249 SF Georgian style architecture building providing areas to conduct daily operations in coordinating the administrative, educational, operational, and logistics support. The 29,000 SF Mess Hall provides food service functions including areas for seated dining for candidates, OCS staff and instructors.  The total population to be served is estimated to be 2,400 students and 96 instructors, provides 710 seats for general seating, plus 24 seats in a designated instructor-only seating area. This project was designed to achieve a LEED “Silver” rating.

When called upon to provide design build services for a new Officer Candidate School headquarters building and mess hall relocation and upgrade at Marine Corps Base (MCB) Quantico, Virginia, the design team responded with an efficient, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing plan that exceeded expectations for facility improvements at this historically venerable site. These buildings may be just part of the fabric of this historic installation, but as such they also become part of the process that helps evaluate and train the more than 2,500 Marine Corps officer candidates that annually come through its doors.
