University of New Mexico Cancer Center

Relocation and expansion of the cancer research components of the center, with efficient and direct connection to the existing bio-medical research facilities. The project’s design concept was to create a highly functional and technologically state-of-the-art facility that would support research, knowledge dissemination and care provision.  Natural colors and re-interpretation of traditional New Mexico architectural forms adds to the building’s character and reflects a forward-thinking contextual and “warm” presence.

In association with Rohde May Keller McNamara Architects, Albuquerque.

We worked to create an artful environment where a sense of welcome and comfort would displace the isolation and anxiety experienced by cancer patients.  The architectural approach emphasizes the dramatic natural environment and the rich tri-cultural heritage to encourage wellness and hope.
