Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Alumni Center for Sports and Recreation

Planning and architectural design for the 160,000 square foot Alumni Center for Sports and Recreation. The design features a 70,000 square foot field house with a 200-meter track, basketball and tennis courts.  Flexible functionality was at the center of the design effort to ensure multiple event activities could occur in one athletic facility at once. The design included a new arena featuring 1,500 retractable seats, allowing for easy modification based on the organization’s event needs. A natatorium was designed to house an eight-lane 25-meter pool for competition and recreation purposes.  The overall, successful planning and design effort has been recognized with the AIA Chicago Distinguished Building Award. The center is home to the NFL Indianapolis Colts, as their team’s summer training camp.

Our design created sweeping forms that would move people emotionally across the creek to create a new vision for the campus and reinforce the dynamism of their nationally ranked program and support the recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff.
